Overcoming Pride

Pride is getting in the way of my blessing. I desire to follow the purpose and the path that God has for my life but so often “I” get in the way – “I think” “I want” “I need” the I’s have control. Following the me of it all leads me to selfishness, procrastination and all the trouble that comes with them and it could all be avoided if I pushed pride out of the way.

Results of Pride

1. Pride makes God mad. Pride is saying to God that I know more than He does. Psalm 10:4 “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”

2. Pride proves depravity. Pride is a main manifestation of sin.

3. Pride produces contention. Pride pits the spirit against the flesh.

4. Pride proceeds destruction. Pride goes before the fall each and every time. Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

5. Pride provides dishonor. Pride points to self and dishonors my place as a child of God.

It is not possible for me to be right with others or to be right in my own life until I am right with God. Pride interrupts that relationship and that rightness and puts me in a place of self. An attitude of independence and ingratitude towards God and His blessings – the I can do it mentality – prevents a right walk.

What actions are you taking that are prideful? Are YOU losing weight? Are YOU getting in shape? Are YOU writing a book or article? Are YOU teaching your children? Are YOU growing your church?

Push pride out of the way and focus on Christ. When you are looking at God it is impossible to focus on anything else.
